You should place your rabbit on your forearm. If you are right handed, place the rabbit on your right arm and vice versa for left handed. Let their legs hang to the side as if they are hugging your arm.

Hold their head firmly from both sides with the hand they have placed on it. Use your other hand to hold the rabbit firmly on your arm.

Raise the bunny so it's directly above your head, then quickly swing back down. It is very important to have a firm grip or you run the risk of your pet falling, which will cause other complications.

This maneuver may take several times to dislodge the device that is blocking your rabbit's airways. When the rabbit coughs and sputters, it means you've dislodged the item enough to stop performing the Heimlich maneuver.
Another reason your rabbit may suffocate is congestive heart failure. Congestive heart failure can occur in rabbits as a result of heart disease. They may indicate breathing problems, including suffocation.

After an episode that requires the Heimlich maneuver, or whatever, it's always a good idea to take your pet to your local vet to see if there's any left over.
